CBN to launch Finger-print identification by 2014

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under the governorship of Mr. Lamido Sanusi in conjunction with Bankers Committee has adopted finger-print identification by bank customers next year, 2014. Present at the meeting in Abuja last week are the Group Managing Directors of Access Bank Plc. First Bank of Nigeria Limited, United Bank for Africa Plc. Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. and Skye Bank Plc. With this, bank customers all over Nigeria will be identified with their fingerprint.

However, CBN has awarded the $50m project to a German based company known as Dermalog and has mandated the company to deliver in 90 days. First stage of the project will connect the central data to the banks as well as the central bank and the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System.

We are very optimistic that by February 14, 2014, the system would become fully operational.
